Story Telling Yurts

Some words of appreciation we received from a story telling event organiser...

'' Red Kite Yurts were a fantastic addition to our event  and were ideal for the Storytelling sessions. We had six Yurts in total and they were all busy throughout the day with singing stories, making stories and telling stories, for all ages.
A welcome cosy spot on a cold November day. They were very impressive and made out site look and feel like a small village. Thanks too to Paul and his crew who were all very attentive to their craft built Yurts.''

Summer Yurt Wedding in North Yorkshire

A wonderful example of how very simple decorations can be used to make a Red Kite Yurt look absolutely stunning!

Here's what the bride said:

''The yurt was seriously AMAZING at our wedding! We couldn't believe how brilliantly it turned out - we really couldn't have asked for more from Red Kite Yurts! Thank you so so much for making our day extra special and for your stunning yurt which was a talking point all day and night''

Yurt wedding on the West Coast of Scotland

Sensational wedding banqueting space provided by Red Kite yurts

Just had to share this photo - absolutely stunning decoration in one of our Yurts two weeks ago for a wedding.

And a little testimonial from the bride:

Just wanted to say a huge thank-you for your spectacular yurt. Having it there really made our wedding, everyone thought it was very beautiful and it gave us a focal point for the day. I'm so glad we found you guys and managed not to have a sterile white box wedding marquee - that would have really jarred with my artistic sensibilities!!!

Red Kite Yurts at The Royal Highland Show, Edinburgh

Red Kite Yurts will be attending the Royal Highland Show this year for the first time. I have never been, but really looking forward to it. We will be there with (at least) one Yurt and will be available to chat about our Yurts and what we do.

What happens at the show?

In their own words; "We’ve been trying to capture what people love most about the Show and haven’t managed it!
That's because no one single thing makes it special. What does is that it offers an eclectic mix of the expected and unexpected that keeps the thousands who flock here each year coming back year after year.

For those who think it’s just cows and combine harvesters, then what can we say? Be prepared for an experience like no other. We guarantee that if you come you'll be back year after year.

You can find the show website by clicking this link.

Red Kite Yurts: Knochongorroch Festival - Red kite Yurts providing Accommodation

Knockengorroch Festival - Red kite Yurts providing Accommodation

Red Kite Yurts will be providing luxury camping accommodation at Knockengorroch Festival this year. For the very reasonable sum of £375 you and up to five friends can stay in comfort at the festival in one of our beautifully hand crafted Yurts.

A typical Yurt will be 16 feet diameter and will accommodate up to five people. We will be providing a vinyl ground sheet and basic carpets in the Yurts, though no stoves I am afraid.

There are a small number of other sizes (both larger and smaller) so I am sure that we can provide something that is comfortable and within budgett.

If you are going to the festival and want to speak to someone about booking please contact Nathan on nathan@redkiteyurts.com or call us directly on 01877 330 943. We would be very happy to speak to you.

The Launch of Red Kite Yurts new 'Barn yurt' for weddings and events. We strive to create sensational spaces as an interesting, hand made, green alternative to traditional marquees. We have increasingly been providing hand crafted Yurts for the wedding, events and festival space as well as for glamping on prestigious campsites and at hotels. Outside view of 'Barn yurt' - A great Wedding & Events space

Red Kite Yurts have just finnished construction of their most ambitious project to date - the hand crafting of an elongated Yurt, specically designed with weddings and large events in mind. This was no mean feat as the structure of a traditional round Yurt is dependant on the tension band holding up the walls and that in turn holding up the rafters and crown.

We have already constructed a 42 foot diameter Yurt with double crown, but customers were still calling for a bigger structure to accommodate larger weddings of up to 250 people. It was not feasible to simply continue building outwards so we looked at the possibilities of building lengthways instead.

In order to construct this Yurt we had to entirely re-design the frame-work to enable the walls to stand straight without the tension band and to ensure that the rafters and elongated crown stayed in their correct position. This could only be achieved by putting supports down the centre of the Yurt so that instead of pushing outwards on the walls (normally held in place by the tension band) the weight of the roof structure put downward pressure on the walls.

The result is a fantastic structure with a high vaulted roof and all the charachteristics of a Yurt, while enabling us to realise a bigger structure without simply building in ever increasing circumferences.

Empty Wedding Yurt - Ready for guests

Wedding Yurt in all it's Glory

The 'Barn Yurt' went up for its first wedding last weekend and was a raoring success with the ceilidgh going on well into the night.

140 guests enjoyed the wedding banquet seated around six foot diameter tables which were cleared to allow room for dancing the night away.

Welcome

Dear all,

Thank you for taking the time to visit the official Red Kite Yurts blog. Paul and Nathan welcome you to browse and leave comments.

Red Kite Yurts was started 10 years ago by Paul Millard who has had a life long interest in the culture and way of life of the nomadic peoples of Central Asia. Starting out with just one yurt which he hired to friends and families for parties and celebrations. Word of Paul's story quickly spread and the business has gone from strength to strength and now boasts a large selection of yurts ranging from 8 foot to 42 foot in diametre.
The list of uses for our yurts is endless but here are just a few of our most popular...
  • Wedding, Events, Festivals etc
  • Eco-living, Sustainability and Green Living Events
  • Luxury Camping
Paul also runs regular Yurt Building Classes at his workshop in Callander during which he shares his many years of knowledge and practical experience with keen yurt builders who often go on to build their own yurts.

Red Kite Yurts first Open Day

Setting up a 42 foot diameter Yurt is not a task to be triffled with. In fine weather a hardy team of four can do it in a day, but taking on this task mid-winter was always going to be an ambitious endeavour.
